Art or Garbage? – Unmasked

Art or Garbage? – Unmasked

A brave and bold statement;

Here the world has managed to pierce the narrow vision of a mask created by divisive ideals. With this restrictive piece discarded the surrounding landscape can reveal the intricate paths and opportunities that, given time, will bloom into luscious life.

Ahh, Winnipeg in January; fresh and brisk, pale sunlight streaming over the snow. While picturesque, it is often overshadowed by the fact that by fresh and brisk I mean dry and FREEZING. This time of year pedestrians bundle themselves up so between their scarves wrapped up over their noses and their toques pulled down over their ears all you can see is their frost covered eyelashes. Rivers freeze, the surrounding foliage sits brittle and dormant and the world eagerly awaits the spring.

This is when I discovered the first piece that would set me on my quest for Litterature.

While in a hurry to get out of the cold (which is always, by the way. I hate the cold. I complain every winter. So far the complaining has yielded no noticeable results but I will keep trying – trust me!) I spotted this obscure item that was carefully threaded onto the outermost branch.

Why I stopped I can’t tell you, other than I felt compelled to. Something about this was interesting. It was obviously placed here with a purpose; who had done the placing and why? It was almost.. Artistically done.

I snapped a photo out of appreciation, capturing both the innate oddity of the scene and my fascination with others like it from that point on.

Is it art or is it garbage? In either case it is Litterature.
