Remix: JD’s Tequilaless Cucumber Watermelon Margaritas

Remix: JD’s Tequilaless Cucumber Watermelon Margaritas

When an ultra powerful 1960’s refrigerator gives you frozen cucumbers what are you to do? Since the cottage came with enough glassware to inebriate a small sorority, the answer is obvious:

Make Margaritas!?

Cointreaury to most margaritas, this recipe does not contain tequila… because we drank all of it.

In my kitchen, no recipe is ever exactly the same.

In fact, most of the time I’m making it up as I go along.

This recipe was inspired by: circumstance, a google search suggesting frozen cucumbers are good in smoothies, and the ingredients on hand

When your refrigerator freezers your cucumbers solid what are you to do?

There were a few things you could make out of frozen cucumbers, according to the google search I did. You can put them in water (which I did) you can make cucumber soup (which I also technically did, although I didn’t have most of the ingredients recommended… but cucumber and chives work surprisingly well together!).

But blending them up for a smoothie or drink was a popular choice, so I went with that. Besides, I had “new” blenders I wanted to try out and so. much. watermelon.

Query: What even is a margarita?

Margaritas are traditionally made with tequila, triple sec (or Cointreau), lime or lemon juice, and salt. If you’ve followed the recipe as is – you have a tequilaless margarita!

What composes a cointreau?

Pronounced “kwan-troh”, Cointreau was the name of the man who began producing liqueurs in France back in 1849. The original orange-flavored triple sec liqueur was added to the roster 8 years later in 1857. Over the years the recipe was refined, using a blend of fresh and dried sweet and bitter orange peels.

Almost 100 years later (1948) the Margarita was invented, further solidifying Cointreau’s place amongst cocktail connoisseurs.
