Since 1999 millions of millennials have continually consumed peanut butter on toast in hopes of attracting their very own house hippo.
Fast forward to 2024, it is no wonder the pygmy hippo Moo Deng bounced her way into our hearts as enthusiastically as she seems to do everything else. The adorable addition to Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand quickly became the year’s top influencer, reigniting our longing for a little hippo friend.

People will tell you that hippopotamus are dangerous creatures you do not in fact want to cuddle. They are correct. I don’t recommend you attempt to cuddle non-domesticated animals, but long ago I accepted my fate to die by cuddling something I shouldn’t. I happily take that risk.

THE MAKING OF ‘ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS MOO (DENG)’ MOOSIC VIDEO
Once I realized Moo rhymes with ‘you’, Moo Deng’s version of Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You played in my head incessantly, non-stop until finally I expelled it via YouTube video.
I wrote the lyrics and used Audacity to record a cursed version of the track that no one – not even you – will ever hear. I have been known to sing (as Wee Kidna), sometimes even decently, but due to a respiratory virus I was forced to get creative. I found the product AI Covers and used that produce the vocals as you hear them.
Already worried enough about using Mariah Carey’s song as a backing track, I doubly did not want to steal any Moo Deng images. I employed Night Café and ChatGPT to produce the included images, and Neural Frames to create the dreamland video sequence.
Finally, I channeled my resources and considerable creative skill to compile the video through LightWorks. A new program to me, it was a bit of a struggle, but can confirm Light does Works.
Becoming hip to these new tools helped to create this commemorative ditty that marks 2024 Moost Dengsired commodity.
